Pipeline Replacement Project

The MMWC Pipeline Replacement Project was originally conceived prior to the 2017 Tubbs Fire, but gained significant traction and conviction following, and since, the Fire.  The Project is being paid for by the Assessment requested of all member landowners since late 2021.

As it stands today, the Water Distribution Pipeline consists of segments that are steel (originally installed in the mid-1950s) and various segments that have been replaced/repaired before and since the Fire (which are drinking-water-specific, heavy duty PVC plastic pipe).

The Pipeline Replacement Project is designed to install approx. 4100 linear feet of new PVC to replace the existing steel pipe, primarily from the Water Tanks downhill to Lorraine Way, across Michele Way and then south along the MMWC water easement serving the homes with driveways on Mark West Springs Road and driveways on the east side of Michele Way, as far south as 1445 Mark West Springs and 1400 Michele Way.

Farther south, the next segment being replaced serves the homes with driveways facing Mark West Springs Road from 1253 to 1205 Mark West Springs Road, and those with driveways facing Eno Way, including 1288 & 1258 Eno Way.

The Lorraine Way replacement segment will serve homes between 1491 Michele Way and 1345 Michele Way, and homes between 1436 Lorraine Way and 1412 Lorraine Way.

The final segment runs from the above Lorraine Way segment, along the property line between 1448 & 1436 Lorraine Way, across Lorraine Way and serving the homes between 1425 and 1404 Lorraine Way.

The project work is slated to begin during the week of July 11th, and is *anticipated* to conclude by November 15th, 2022.

The Board of the Water Company will seek to notify each affected landowner at least (48) hours prior to work commencing on their property.

The contractor’s team will excavate a trench, prepare and lay the new PVC water main, and then make connections to the existing main every 200 to 300 lineal feet.  They will follow the Sonoma County Disinfection Standards, which will be witnessed and tested by the Water Company’s system operator, and inspected periodically by the County’s Inspector(s).

*PLEASE NOTE*:  Per the MMWC By-Laws, landowners who have made improvements (e.g.; built fences or other accessory structures) within the water easement, will have the obstructions removed by the Pipeline contractor.  All materials will be stacked, as neatly as possible, on the landowner’s property, adjacent the easement, such that Pipeline construction may continue.  The MMWC will have no liability for installation after completion of the water main, to any landowner who has made such improvements within, and obstructing, MMWC’s clear access to the easement.)

As the new water line is laid in and connected, individual connections at each property will also be made, at which time, water meters will be installed.  Installation of water meters has been elected by the Board, ahead of the State of California’s 2023 *requirement* that meters be deployed on all municipal water systems.  *Please stay tuned to the web site with regard to potential “BOIL WATER” notices that may be required for short periods during construction.*  And please rest assured - no changes in pricing are currently contemplated by the MMWC Board of Directors!
